High-Tech Innovation Management - Application to the Aerospace Sector

Certificate Academic Coordinator: Sihem Jouini, Associate Professor - Operations Management & Information Technology Department

The Chair focuses on training future leaders in the aerospace and aviation industry to innovate within very large organizations.

Addressing the aviation industry's challenges

Launched in June 2011, the Chair is a five-year agreement between HEC Paris, SUPAERO and Safran, a leading high-tech company in the aerospace, defense and security sectors. Safran University's Gilbert Font, Director of Training and Managerial Development, says "the Chair's objectives align with Safran's strategy to train professionals who are capable of addressing the aerospace and aviation industry's major challenges".

The Chair aims to enhance educational excellence through training and research while providing participants with the skills needed to create and manage complex situations and products. "This Chair will enable tomorrow's aerospace and aviation professionals to master all aspects of innovation as genuine engineer-managers," says ISAE Director of Research and Teaching Resources Frédéric Thivet.

Rooted in research, centered on learning

The High-Tech Innovation Management Chair is composed of three educational programs and a research component. While in-depth investigations will probe innovation's full life cycle from ideation to implementation, the educational programs will focus on training.

The Aeronautics and Space Academy is an intensive three-week training program based in Toulouse, France's aviation capital. Open to first- and second-year HEC Paris students, the program is composed of thematic seminars, practical workshops and field studies. The Innovation Management in Aviation & Aerospace Certificate is a two-month program aimed at third-year HEC Paris students and SUPAERO aerospace students. Taught primarily at the HEC Paris campus, the certificate taps into the expertise of the Chair's professors and Safran professionals to address issues relating to technological innovation. The HEC Paris-SUPAERO Double Degree is a comprehensive business and aeronautics program targeting HEC Paris and SUPAERO students. In addition to full-time studies at their main school, participants spend two years alternating between the two schools.

"The High-Tech Innovation Management Chair has added an exciting new double-degree program to our expanding portfolio," says Eloïc Peyrache, HEC Paris Associate Dean of Masters Programs. "The HEC Paris-SUPAERO Double Degree is the Chair's key training program and will undoubtedly help foster innovation within the aerospace industry."
