Rachel AMATO

Rachel Amato is involved in HEC Executive Education as the Academic Director for the Executive Master's program, "Consulting and Coaching for Change", in partnership with Oxford University's Saïd Business School.

Rachel Amato has 15 years experience as a management consultant, specialized initially in strategy consultancy, and then moving on to work with organization design and change, intercultural management, and organization development. She has worked successively for different consulting firms in France, then as an internal consultant with a French multinational, and more recently as an independent consultant. Her consulting missions have mainly been with multinationals, but also some French public sector firms. Her practice is rooted conceptually and methodologically in organizational sociology, psychosociology, group relations, and organization development. She is also an executive coach, working with managers and teams.

In parallel to her consulting work, Rachel Amato has completed a Ph.D. at HEC Paris on the psychosocial dynamics of post-merger integration. She has also carried out other research in the field of organizational change, in particular a study of leadership transitions with Ashridge and HEC, which was published as a joint report, Leaders in Transition: the dramas of ordinary heroes (Ashridge-HEC, 2003) and gave rise to several books. She has contributed to two books, The Transitional Approach to Change, G. Amado and A. Ambrose Eds. (Karnac Books, 2001), and Designing Interactive Strategy: From Value Chain to Value Constellation, R. Normann and R. Ramirez (John Wiley & Sons, 1994), as well as writing on mergers and organizational change.

Rachel Amato has designed and facilitated in-house training programs for junior, middle, and senior managers in a number of firms, and taught undergraduate, MBA and EMBA students. She has also coached teams of managers working on action-learning projects in the context of custom programs.

Other than her Ph.D., Rachel Amato holds a Master of Arts (hons) from Oxford University, an MBA from the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Paris (France), and an MPhil in organizational sociology from Paris University VII (France).
