Mark DESJARDINE

Assistant Professor

Strategy and Business Policy

Member of CNRS-GREGHEC Research Group

Mark DesJardine received his Ph.D. in Strategy and Sustainability from the Ivey Business School at Western University and Chartered Financial Analyst designation from the CFA Institute. Mark's work intersects the fields of strategy, finance, and sustainability. His research interests are related to strategic decision making, corporate short-termism, and business sustainability. In some of his most recent work, Mark is exploring how financial markets affect the time horizons and strategic investment decisions of managers. In other published work, Mark argues that short-termism is the bane of business sustainability and explains how the notion of time differentiates sustainability from the often interchanged concept of Corporate Social Responsibility. Mark currently teaches Strategic Management in the MBA program at HEC Paris.

In 2016, Mark was awarded the Governor General's Gold Medal Award for graduating with the highest academic standing among all graduate students at Western University (5,000+ students). The Gold Medal is considered the most presitigous academic award given to students in Canada. His work has also received several others awards, including the Sumantra Ghoshal Research and Practice Award, which is given by the Business Policy and Strategy Division of the Academy of Management to the article with the most significant implications for practice.

Prior to joining HEC Paris, Mark worked in investor relations and consulting. He also holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with Honours from Acadia University. He is a member of the Strategic Management Society, Academy of Management, Alliance for Research on Corporate Sustainability, and the CFA Institute.
