Energy and Finance

Certificate Co-directors of the Chair: JM Gauthier and Geoffroy Dallemagne, affiliate professor at HEC Paris and manager of SG Consulting.

On April 8th 2014 Deloitte, Société Générale and HEC Paris announced the renewal of the Energy and Finance Chair for the next four years. Since 2005 this chair has allowed for the development of several training programs, the most notable being the “Energy in a Carbon-Concerned Economy’ certificate, a very successful educational program which trains 350 students each year.

The renewal of the Energy and Finance Chair was signed on April 8th 2014 in the Parisian offices of Deloitte, with Bernard Ramanantsoa, Dean of HEC Paris; Véronique Laurent, Partner in Charge of Energy and Resources at Deloitte; Pierre Palmieri, Head of Financial Activity at Société Générale, as well as the two co-directors of the Chair,Jean-Michel Gauthier, affiliate professor at HEC Paris and Chief Economist Officer of Energy and Resources France at Deloitte, and Geoffroy Dallemagne, affiliate professor at HEC Paris and manager of SG Consulting.

The HEC Energy and Finance Chair was created in 2005 by Deloitte, and since 2010 it has been jointly sponsored by Deloitte and Société Générale.

The objective of this Chair is to lead teaching and research work on interactions between the energy sector and financial markets. Economic players are in effect driven by deregulation, geopolitical uncertainty and environmental issues to adapt their strategies to a new context where financial markets play an ever increasing role.

Bernard Ramanantsoa described the renewal of this Chair as an "opportunity for HEC to ensure that its teaching incorporates the complexity associated with all strategic decision, in this case, the interaction between technology and sustainable development and financial reasoning."

Véronique Laurent, Partner in Charge of Energy and Resources at Deloitte, has underlined the interest in the partnership in view of the strategic nature of the Energy sector, emphasising the "new ambitions for the future in line with the important evolutions known to the sector."

Pierre Palmieri, Head of Financial Activity at Société Générale added, "we are pleased to be able to give the Chair our support and to share our expertise as well."
