Corey Phelps is an Associate Professor of Strategy and Business Policy at HEC Paris.

Prior to joining HEC, Dr. Phelps was an Assistant Professor and Neal & Jan Dempsey Faculty Fellow in the Management and Organization Department at the Foster School of Business, University of Washington (USA).

He completed his Ph.D. in Strategic Management at the Stern School of Business, New York University (USA).

Dr. Phelps's current research focuses on understanding how companies use strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions, and minority equity investments in start-up firms to enhance their performance. A portion of this research was funded by the United States National Science Foundation. His published research has appeared or is forthcoming in Academy of Management Journal, Management Science, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of Management, and Advances in Strategic Management. He regularly presents his research at conferences around the world. Dr. Phelps is an elected member of the Executive Committees of the Academy of Management's BPS and TIM Divisions and is currently on the editorial boards of Organization Science and the Journal of Business Venturing. He is a past member of the editorial board of the Academy of Management Journal. Dr. Phelps received the Academy of Management Technology and Innovation Management Division's Best Dissertation Award and The State Farm Companies Foundation Dissertation Award. At HEC, he teaches in the Grande Ecole, MBA, EMBA, PhD and executive education programs.

He is also Academic Director of the HEC-Atos Origin Talent Development Program. His extensive executive teaching experience includes degree, open-enrolment and custom programs in Europe, the U.S., Asia and the Middle East. During his time on the faculty at UW he received numerous teaching awards, including undergraduate and MBA professor of the year, and was a finalist for the University's Distinguished Teaching Award.
