Management of Information Systems

This course aims to help students understand the basics of information systems and their roles in contemporary organizations.

In particular, we will examine the innovative applications of information systems in organizations to enable collaboration, streamline business operations and enhance competitive advantage. Students are expected to understand the strategic importance of information systems for organizations and how they are used in different functional areas in organizations. Students are also expected to understand the basics of electronic commerce and business analytics.

Course Objectives

  • To learn how information systems are used in contemporary organizations
  • To appreciate the strategic importance of information systems for organizations
  • To understand the different information systems in a typical business organization, such as enterprise resource planning, customer relationship management systems, and e-commerce. In particular, to understand the unique principles of the economics of e-commerce and their implications for e-commerce
  • To understand the basic concepts of big data and business analytics. In particular, to understand the basic techniques of business analytics.
