Internship as an Analyst at Goldman Sachs in London

From traders to salesmen, investment bankers to consultants, I am sure that people that I met here will be future CEO’s, CFO’s or partners at the most prestigious firms in the world

New career path

Before I came to HEC Paris, I had done two Summer Internships in Sales & Trading, the most recent of which at Goldman Sachs in London. During my internship, I was able to get a better understanding about financial markets and the complexity of various financial products. However, the most valuable insight I got from this experience was to understand that I did not want to work on financial markets for the rest of my life: I needed a change, but how would I do it? Could I ever be accepted into investment banking or consulting without any previous experience?
That’s when HEC came into my life! I first heard of the institution while living in Singapore, where two of my flatmates were HEC’s students. Given that I have always wanted to study Finance, I started doing some research about the MIF program, especially about the top positions in which many alumni were. That was definitely the main reason why I ended up choosing HEC.

Career management and forums

From the start of the program, we were highly trained to prepare for job applications: CV workshops, career forums and even mock interviews were held so that all of us would land our dream job. All of a sudden, my fears of not getting a job in a different area vanished due to HEC’s precious help: by December, I had already signed contracts to do an M&A Summer internship in London and another consulting autumn internship in Madrid, both at two of my top-choice firms.

Strong links

The program’s flexibility or the mix between academic and professional experience of its professors should of course be highlighted when talking about MIF. Furthermore, I truly believe that what I gained the most during this year was my network. From traders to salesmen, investment bankers to consultants, I am sure that people that I met here will be future CEO’s, CFO’s or partners at the most prestigious firms in the world: this is HEC’s biggest highlight. Moreover, many of these are now some of my best friends that I shared incredible experiences with, from a 21-guys trip to Belgrade to a 10-days odyssey in Rio de Janeiro.
