Class of 2017
from Duke University
Internship at Bank of America Merrill Lynch Debt Advisory Group
The perfect mix between research professors and practitioners helped me lay a solid foundation in theoretical financial knowledge and enabled me to acquire a practical skillset, directly applicable to the job I'll be doing in the future
I studied statistics and philosophy at Duke University and have previously interned at Bank of America Merrill Lynch Debt Advisory Group, Citi M&A and Cathay Private Equity.
Although I had not studied finance before, after my last internship, I decided that I would like to pursue an advanced degree in finance. Since my first summer working in finance, I’ve had a growing interest in restructuring, and was hoping that the Master in Finance would teach me relevant knowledge and skills that would enable me to work in the industry. In my opinion, Europe has the most interesting culture and the best quality finance masters compared to the rest of the world. On top of the consecutive 6 years ranking number one in the FT, the MSc in International Finance program was superior to any other program I'd researched in terms of its curriculum and layout.
I found the exact courses I wanted to take in restructuring, taught by top-class professionals who work in restructuring advisory or distressed investing. After a competitive selection process, I was offered a spot in the class of 2017 and I couldn't have been happier accepting it.
The program enabled me to learn both in and beyond the classroom. The perfect mix between research professors and practitioners helped me lay a solid foundation in theoretical financial knowledge and enabled me to acquire a practical skillset, directly applicable to the job I'll be doing in the future. More importantly, I have learned so much working with my fellow classmates on the program, made up of top students from different nationalities and cultural backgrounds from all over the world. We formed strong bonds working alongside each other towards the same goal and by helping each other every step of the way. The teamwork and various skills we learned from each other over the course of the program are invaluable.
After HEC, I will be joining Houlihan Lokey as part of their restructuring team as a summer analyst.
