Class of 2015
from University of Mannheim
Internship in Finance Strategy & Operations for Deloitte Consulting, Stuttgart
The whole school actively supported my career development by offering career fairs, inviting guest speakers and conducting CV reviews and mock interviews
Academic and professional background
Before coming to HEC Paris, I obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from University of Mannheim. Furthermore, I interned in Commerzbank, in a Nigerian microfinance bank, with EY and Deloitte Consulting.
Choosing HEC Paris and the MFE program
I chose HEC because of the excellent academic reputation, the extensive international network and the close ties to top-tier companies. The closeness to Paris offers an immense cultural variety and the possibility to improve on your French language. The MFE program in particular allowed me to expand my knowledge in finance and economics. It also served my initial career interests of joining a development bank or an international organization.
Personal program highlights
With hindsight, the biggest assets of the program are the open, determined and intelligent fellow students. I could leverage on their knowledge and count on their support throughout my job hunt. This coincides with amazing classes such as “Sovereign Risk Analysis” with an analyst from Fitch Ratings or “Strategic Consulting” with top managers from McKinsey or “Limits to Market Efficiency” with a leading French professor. The remedial classes are especially helpful for students without a business background and regular feedback sessions with the program directors constantly improve the selection of courses and the overall program.
HEC has even more to offer beyond the classes. I was part of the soccer and the chess team and we competed against other business schools from France and Europe. Overall, more than 100 student societies from arts, sports, politics, business, etc. are open to all students. This huge variety of student activities clearly differentiates HEC Paris from other business schools and it allows you to continue whatever leisure activity you pursued before or to discover a new one.
I finished the program with an internship at a German embassy. I am currently an in-house consultant at a German bank and a PhD candidate at the University of Mannheim. Like me, most of my fellow students found internships and full-time positions in leading banks, consultancies, industry companies, international organizations and start-ups long before graduation. The whole school actively supported my career development by offering career fairs, inviting guest speakers and conducting CV reviews and mock interviews.
