Marketing Intern at Turkcell

Prior to studying at HEC Paris, I completed my bachelor’s degree at the Galatasaray University in Istanbul in Business Administrations with an Erasmus exchange in Lyon, France. On top of my degree, I completed an internship in the marketing department of Yasar Food and Beverages, one of the largest FMCG companies in Turkey. I also completed another internship in the finance department of Mercedes-Benz Turkey, and lastly one in the corporate marketing department of Turkcell, the leading telecommunication company in Turkey.

Why I was drawn to HEC

My primary motivation for applying to HEC Paris was to fulfil my long-term career goal of managing projects and new businesses in a transnational context. I was deeply interested by Luxury and Digital before coming to HEC Paris and I was looking to work with companies such as L’Oréal, Ubisoft and DDB Agency.
With the combination of theoretical fullfillment and the interactive structure of the courses, I was exposed to different cultures and perspectives having been given the chance to work on projects with team members from different countries. The courses were highly demanding, however, the grading system for most courses required us to work in groups for our final projects, which took the pressure off slightly. From these experiences I’ve understood that being a team member is just as important as being a team leader.

Becoming a team player in every aspect of school life

I became a team player not only inside the classroom but also outside. HEC Paris has an active student life with many student clubs, including the HEC Women Volleyball Team which I was a part of. It was another unique experience to be part of an international sports team and compete with other French teams in tournaments such as the Cup of France. The chance to be part of an internationally diverse team reminded me how much I enjoy interacting with people in multicultural and diverse environments.

Broadening relevant knowledge

Studying on the Marketing Program at a reputable university helped me observe and compare different business environments and practices. Furthermore, I realized that due to the fast-paced nature of the digital world and its innovations, companies are looking for professionals who have a broader knowledge on implementing digital into their businesses.  As a result of this I chose to participate in the Digital Transformation Certificate at HEC Paris.

Next steps

In June 2017, I will be joining an innovative start-up in Paris in a digital marketing position. I’m positive that my experience at HEC will be invaluable when starting my career.
