Investment Banking and International Corporate Finance Program Details

The 2018 Investment Banking and International Corporate Finance Program will be offered in both Intake 2 and 3 of the Summer School.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the summer program, participants will be able to:

  • Apply Investment Banking tools successfully
  • Recognize key accounting principles and links among the 3 main financial statements
  • Analyze a company’s financial performance
  • Understand company decisions on capital structure
  • Ascertain how company stakeholders work together despite diverging interests
  • Identify the ways companies raise funds (debt and equity) as well as the associated costs
  • Comprehend the methods CFOs/CEOs and Investment Bankers use to value companies
  • Identify key drivers of M&A transactions
  • Analyze an M&A transaction
  • Understand the purpose of leveraged buyouts (LBOs), their structure and means of success.

Assessment

Student evaluation will be based on the following:

  • Case studies

  • Class participation
  • Final project
  • Final closed-book test.

Successful completion of the program leads to the award of 7 ECTS credits.*

Patrick Legland, Affiliate Professor in the HEC Paris Finance Department

Patrick Legland, Academic Director, Affiliate Professor, HEC Paris Finance Department

A Finance professional for more than 25 years, Patrick Legland specializes in Equity, Debt Capital Markets, Merger and Acquisition. He has served as the Managing Director of several Investment Banks in Hong Kong, London and Paris. Having led diverse global teams, Patrick Legland benefits from his vast international experience, which he brings into the classroom. He is currently Global Head of Research, and Member of the Global Capital Market in a large Investment Bank.

Mr. Legland is an Affiliate Professor in the HEC Paris Finance Department, a Graduate Member of the SFAF, and also an instructor of Financial Markets at Sciences Po Paris.

He is also a Board member of the HEC Finance Club. Mr. Legland publishes professional articles and research on the topics of corporate finance, valuation, and financial markets.

Philippe FAVRE

Philippe Favre, Senior Banking Professional, Program Lecturer.

Philippe Favre, a graduate of ESCP and Stanford SEP, has over 30 years of experience in international capital markets. He currently heads a family office advisory, HNWI, with business interests in France, the United States and Great Britain, and which is focused primarily on worldwide financial asset allocation. Previously, during 18 years at Indosuez Bank , he headed capital markets for equity and equity-linked new issues, overseeing Eurotunnel and Euro Disney public offerings. He served as head of investment banking in the Middle East, and subsequently as Senior Country Officer in charge of the Scandinavian region. Later named General Manager for Indosuez Bank in the United Kingdom, he oversaw the merger of Indosuez Bank and Credit Agricole. After leaving Credit Agricole, he successively headed two major brokerage houses in France, where he managed IPOs of approximately two dozen companies. Mr. Favre thouroughly enjoys sharing his rich expertise with students.
