Cheerios goes no-GMO

Market-place.org, 3 January 2014

Before long it will be possible to buy a box of GMO-free Cheerios says General Mills, who have decided not to use any corn or sugar which have been genetically modified in their product. Despite companies maintaining that products containing GMO ingredients are safe, many Americans are still wary. Yet according to HEC Paris’ professor and food policy expert at NYU Law Clinic, Albert Alemanno, there is a reason why General Mills have picked Cheerios rather than another type of cereal such as Wheaties: “Cheerios contain oats. Oats is not a GM crop. So, it is pretty clear they have targeted this product because it is going to be easier for them to deliver.”
