France sees potential for closer ties with Singapore

Singapore is France’s most important partner in South-east Asia, according to Alain Berder, the French Treasury Department’s Asia and South Pacific deputy head. Dider Ortolland, Assistant director of South-east Asia in the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that this partnership does not have to be strengthened purely in economic terms, however: “One area we are pushing for is academic and research activities. Some of our major institutes such as HEC Paris and INSEAD have set up satellites in Singapore, and our National Centre for Scientific Research is also opening there next month.”
