France 'spitting in wind with anti-global view'

As France officially enters recession, the European Commission believes that a change in Parisian attitude is needed to help recover the economy. As its economy declines, some fear that France’s strong position in Europe is under threat. Laurent Calvet, Finance Professor at HEC Paris, believes that, like any country that has been under-performing for many years, its influence may deteriorate. He argues that in order for France to hold its position, it must clear its debt and reduce taxes for the time-being. José Manuel Barroso, Chief of the European Commission, believes that France must adapt to globalization.
