Nurturing entrepreneurs in the Parisian banlieues

An education at one of France’s top business schools is usually an un­attainable aspiration for those on low incomes. In an effort to provide opportunities to those at a particular disadvantage in French society, schools are offering support to refugees and to young entrepreneurs in the Parisian suburbs, or banlieues.

HEC’s Stand Up programme, for example, provides business classes and coaching to help female entrepreneurs from the banlieues. It began in 2012 with 40 women. Last year, 350 women participated and about a third will successfully continue the businesses they develop.
