Russia bans US beef and pork imports

Russia has banned pork and beef imports In reaction to the use of antibiotics in intensive farming. In light of such usage and of the recent horsemeat scandal, Alberto Alemanno, Professor of EU Law and Risk Regulation at HEC Paris, says that the use of drugs in farming is a food safety issue that has caused trade tensions. Russia’s chief health inspector says that the ban will be lifted once exporting meat no longer contains ractopamine.
