HEC Paris in Qatar - the region's leading hub for Executive Education, offering a complete portfolio of management programs including the first ever international Executive MBA (EMBA) in Qatar - is hosting the first part of the 2012 EMBA 'Energy Major' in Doha this week. The Energy Major is conducted under the umbrella of the TOTAL Chair in Energy and Management. It consists of two modules, one in Doha, from May 19 to 24, and one in Paris from October 15 to 19.

The HEC Paris EMBA participants have the option to choose one out of six Majors: Luxury, Services, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Aerospace & Aviation, Global Business Perspectives, and Energy. They have the opportunity to benefit from a relevant venue, academic and industry experts, as well as from the interaction with like-minded peers from around the globe.

Participants from all five HEC EMBA locations (Paris, Doha, Beijing, Shanghai and St. Petersburg) who have chosen to major in Energy will be in Doha this week for an intensive five-day-program. In total, Qatar will host 48 Energy Major participants from 17 countries, including Qatar, the US, France, the UK, Germany, Chile, Mexico, Colombia, Russia, Denmark and more, reflecting the international character of the HEC Executive MBA.

"Qatar, being the largest LNG exporter worldwide, and given LNG's role in redesigning the global energy map, it makes lot of sense to host the Energy Major in Doha," explains Professor Antoine Hyafil, Academic Dean of HEC Paris in Qatar.

This first part of the Energy Major, being held in Doha, consists of a number of subjects taught through lectures and group work. These include among others: The Fundamentals of Gas and LNG; The Fundamentals of Oil Markets; Financing of Energy Infrastructures; Geopolitics of Energy, and The Future of Renewable Energy, as well as a visit to Ras Laffan. The part held in Paris focuses on the Economics of Power, Energy and Climate Financial Markets, Energy & Climate Corporate Strategies, and includes a visit to a nuclear plant.

The Major is instructed by HEC Paris Professors and includes round tables and guest lectures given by other specialists in the field.

With a 130-year history of excellence, HEC Paris has been ranked as Europe's #1 business school since 2006 and among the Top 3 worldwide for Executive Education since 2010 by the UK's Financial Times media group. In June 2010, HEC Paris joined Qatar Foundation as the first European Partner in Education City and the first member of the Qatar Foundation Management and Education Research Center.
