Chairman of the Board, President and CEO of IBM speaks at HEC Paris

15 March 2011

On 2 March 2011, HEC Paris had the honour of welcoming Samuel J. Palmisano, Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of IBM. Celebrating IBM’s centennial, Mr. Palmisano visited the campus to give a conference on ‘A business and its ideas: Shaping a company and a century’.

During the ceremony Bernard Ramanantsoa, Dean of HEC Paris, awarded Samuel J. Palmisano with the HEC Honorary degree. M. Ramanantsoa said “It is an honor for HEC Paris to welcome Sam Palmisano and to award him the HEC honorary degree. His visit to the campus is a unique opportunity for our students to discover his exceptional experience as head of an iconic organization, which is renowned for having continually reinvented itself and for innovation throughout its history.”
During his speech, Samuel J. Palmisano shared one of the lessons he has learned from these 100 years of business: In order to achieve growth and sustained success over the decades and even over a century, businesses must never lose sight of the long term vision in their every day management. The centenary anniversary of IBM presents an opportunity to reexamine the history of technology and innovation and to prepare for the next 100 years to come. The corporation will take advantage of this opportunity by meeting with leaders, the academic world and the local communities in the 170 countries it has integrated.
