HEC Paris announces the 20th Anniversary of MBAT 13-16 May 2010

12 May 2010

Founded in 1990, the MBAT brings together over 1,500 MBA students from 70 nationalities from Europe’s top schools to compete in 21 sports ranging from basketball and swimming to petanque and tug of war. The tournament is organized entirely by HEC Paris MBA students, and is a key part of the leadership and teamwork training that the HEC MBA instills upon its participants.

Associate Dean of the HEC MBA Program, Valérie Gauthier, is looking forward to this year's event: "The planning and organization of the 3‐day event develops MBA leadership skills in a real‐life setting, which is part of the HEC Visions of Leadership program. This 20th anniversary MBAT promises to be a fantastic moment of sports, friendship and leadership in the spirit of what we call "coopetition." I look forward to welcoming all participants to our campus on May 13th."

In the MBAT’s 20th year, student coordinators, Anne‐Reine Lapeyre and Dan Harrison, have built upon the tournament’s traditions of sportsmanship, team spirit, and overall success in their desire to ensure that the MBAT continues to be the highlight of the international business school calendar. According to Lapeyre, “The MBAT is the only chance that top business students from around the world get to compete for something outside of their career. We are fostering school spirit as well as bringing together the next global generation of business leaders to flex their muscles and share ideas. As the competitors are the future of commerce and industry, the games will be a connection to be shared for many years across many continents and time zones.”MBAT 2010 will be a carbon neutral event. In all, MBAT participants will be generating around 200 tons of carbon dioxide. All of the emissions from students travelling to and from the MBAT by air, rail and road, as well as all emissions created due to transportation during the MBAT will be offset by buying an equivalent amount of ‘carbon credit’ from projects that have saved carbon dioxide.

Confirmed participants so far for this year’s games are:

SDA Bocconi, Cambridge Judge Business School, Cranfield School of Management, ESADE, IMD, IESE, IE, Oxford Said Business School, Manchester Business School, RSM Erasmus University, London Business School, TiasNimbas Business School, and the hometown favorite, HEC Paris.
