Social and Sustainable Business Conference

“Over the past few years, HEC Paris has established itself as a leader in the field of sustainable business education by developing dedicated programs and pioneering sustainable initiatives” says Bernard Ramanantsoa, Dean of HEC Paris.

The two-day event focused on three specific themes, starting with the idea of change. How do changes in our world affect our needs, our planet’s resources, and the ability of businesses to operate profitably and responsibly based upon these two factors? Second, the conference looked at the measurement of success in terms of social business, green initiatives, and sustainability in general. Lastly, the conference addressed this omnipresent buzzword – sustainability. What does it really mean? And how are innovative individuals and organizations working together to create a more sustainable future?

“As a leader in the field of sustainable business education, HEC Paris aspires to contribute to the development of a more responsible and informed corporate environment and to prepare its graduates to lead the businesses of tomorrow in a visionary and responsible manner,” said Valerie Gauthier, Associate Dean of the HEC MBA Program.The conference featured engaging keynote speakers like Clara Gaymard, President of GE France and the GE International Government Initiatives leader; Ben Verwaayen, CEO of Alcatel Lucent; and Pamela Hartigan, the Director of the Skoll Center for Social Entrepreneurship at Oxford’s Said Business School in the UK.

Participants also had the opportunity to attend a wide variety of panels debating everything from the role of sustainability in luxury and the green cities to the future of education and the need for an alternative economic model. The experts on each of these panels have diverse backgrounds and experiences to share.

The annual Social and Sustainable Business Conference from HEC Paris began in 2003 with the aspiration to incorporate sustainability alongside social responsibility and business ethics into the business practices of future business leaders at HEC Paris. Although this initiative started as a seminar for HEC Paris students, it quickly became an annual event, bringing together students from the leading business schools in Europe along with a distinguished list of guest speakers.
