The EMBA learning journey - expect the unexpected
For François de Le Rue and Jevon Le Roux, the HEC Paris Executive MBA is a unique opportunity to acquire more in-depth business knowledge, develop their entrepreneurial skills and move their careers forward. The Capstone Project in particular allows them to apply what they have learnt by developing strategies for new and innovative start-up projects.
EXPANDING THEIR INTERNATIONAL NETWORK
Coming from two very different backgrounds, François and Jevon began the program with different outlooks and expectations.
Attracted by the international diversity of the HEC PARIS EMBA program, François, a Key Account Manager in charge of new programs for Airbus and ATR at Sagem, wanted to expand his global network at a world-class business school. “HEC Paris gave me the opportunity to follow financial courses in Doha … which was an outstanding opportunity for me to understand our cultural differences and expand my network.”
Jevon, who is from South Africa, was a professional surfer before setting up a global fashion brand. He was looking to develop his entrepreneurial skills by acquiring practical business knowledge offered by the EMBA Capstone Project. “ I wanted to enhance my unique business experience with an international executive education. The engagement with fellow participants, academics and guest speakers really opens your mind to a fresh way of thinking.”
TRANSFORMING START-UPS INTO MARKET LEADERS
For their Capstone Project, François and Jevon have decided to work together on a strategic sales and marketing plan for the Hexo+ drone camera developed by French start-up Squadrone System. The drone autonomously follows and films a user without a remote control and has the potential to radically transform how wearable cameras capture action sports. Their challenge, according to François, is “to transform this groundbreaking innovation from a start-up into a market leader."
François and Jevon aim to provide Squadrone System’s founders with a clearly-defined roadmap to rapidly scale the business and meet projections for high growth rates. They have both benefited from the expertise of their Capstone mentor, Patrick Legland, who has given them invaluable advice on financial strategy.
This learning experience is an outstanding opportunity to learn about the real issues and challenges facing start-ups in the current economic climate. The ‘learning by doing’ approach is amazingly effective and motivating.” – Sales & Marketing Manager / Civil Aircraft Avionics at Sagem DS
