Sustainability and Supply Chains Analytics

CMA CGM Research Chairs

CMA CGM

Research Chairs

Titulaire de la Chaire: Sam Aflaki, Professeur en analyse des chaînes d’approvisionnements et directeur du département Systèmes d’Information et Management des opérations

Logo CMA CGM

As recent crises have shown, transport and logistics play a major role in the functioning of the global economy.   Faced with the still lingering effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and the challenges of ecological and digital transitions, the sector must constantly reinvent itself to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.

With this in mind, CMA CGM, a world leader in sea, land and air transport solutions, backed up by its TANGRAM training and innovation center for sustainable logistics, has decided to create a new university research chair at Europe's leading business school, the "Sustainability & Supply Chain Analytics" Chair, with the support of the HEC Foundation.

Headed by Sam Aflaki, Professor at HEC Paris specializing in decision-making, operations management and energy policy, this research chair is dedicated to the study of global supply chains.

The CMA CGM x HEC Paris "Sustainability & Supply Chain Analytics" Chair focuses its research on the societal and digital challenges of global transport. It thus focuses its ambition on two main themes:

  • The transformation of supply chains, to guarantee greater environmental and social sustainability.
  • Digital transformation, including the use of new technologies such as blockchain, big data and analytics, to improve supply chains according to various criteria, including sustainability, transparency and profitability.

To this end, the Sustainability & Supply Chain Analytics Chair is equipping itself with high-level scientific expertise to anticipate future trends in international trade.

It invites leading international researchers who are relevant to the issues under study, and organizes major academic events.

The Chair also mobilizes the expertise of students as well as doctoral and post-doctoral students around major challenges such as decarbonization, digitalization and technological innovation, adapting to changing consumption patterns and society's expectations, adjusting logistics in the event of crises and geopolitical tensions, and finally the transformation of the world of work and its impact.

HEC Prof. Sam Aflaki quote about HEC Paris CMA CGM' Chair

"In a world where the transport and logistics sectors play a major role in the economy, this Chair will enable both the CMA CGM Group and TANGRAM to gain an in-depth understanding of supply chains in order to improve their impact on the environment and adapt to the challenges of tomorrow." Hadi Zablit, Executive Vice President, Chief Information & Technology Officer of CMA CGM's TANGRAM center

"We are delighted with this partnership, which marks a new stage in the strengthening of the already close relationship between CMA CGM and HEC Paris. Thanks to this Chair, supply chains will be able to equip themselves with new tools to initiate their transformation towards greater environmental and social sustainability." Eloïc Peyrache, Dean and Managing Director of HEC Paris

"The already strong ties between HEC Paris and CMA CGM are strengthened even further by this new partnership in the field of sustainable development and supply chain management. We are delighted to be in a position, through sponsorship, to help HEC Paris researchers create new knowledge that will feed into the School's high-level academic programs, and can be widely shared to influence practices." Olivier Sevillia, Chairman of the HEC Foundation

Lastly, this chair will reinforce the strategic partnership between the CMA CGM Group and HEC Paris, initiated in December 2021 with the "CMA CGM Excellence Fund for Lebanon", HEC Paris' largest international social and excellence scholarship program, enabling the training of 200 Lebanese students on the Jouy-en-Josas Campus.
