Debating and sharing your views with your peers makes you grow not only as a professional but also as a person
Born and raised in Barcelona, I decided to start my studies in the field of Engineering. I graduated in June 2014 from the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC) with a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering. During my bachelor, I completed a 6-month internship at Accenture. In September 2014 I joined a double degree program between UPC and HEC Paris. I did my first year in Barcelona and last September I moved to Paris to start the Master in Management.
Global exposure to the business world
I decided to apply to HEC for various reasons. The first one was to acquire a solid foundation in business and management to build on my engineering background. Therefore joining one of the top business schools in the world was a guarantee of total success. My second reason was the top career opportunities HEC offers and the chance to be able to work in leading companies which have a powerful influence in today's world. Last, but not least, the diversity of the program gives you the chance to meet and interact with top class students from all around the world. Sharing our experiences and building a strong network will have without a shadow of a doubt a positive impact in the future.
The Master in Management is a two-phase program where the first year is composed of general business courses and the second year gives you the opportunity to specialize in your preferred area. The master combines both theory and practice. Thanks to the latter, the classes at HEC are very dynamic, with a lot of participation from the students.
Constantly in motion campus
Outside of the classroom you can enjoy the Campus Life. HEC has many student clubs ranging from all types of sports, to politics and entrepreneurship. Being involved in one of these associations gives you the chance to balance your academic life with your social life. I had the opportunity to attend conferences from Stephen A. Schwarzman (Co-Founder and CEO of Blackstone) or Wang Shi (Founder of China Vanke) among others.
Moreover, HEC provides you with different tools to secure a job offer. The Career Service helps you write your resume in the appropriate way and organizes different events to help you network with the companies you want to work for.
Thinking outside the box
The most valuable skill I have learnt at HEC is the ability to think in a critical way and form an opinion on every business issue. The diversity of the program with people coming from different nationalities and backgrounds makes you listen to different arguments and ideas which you would never have come up with. Debating and sharing your views with your peers makes you grow not only as a professional but also as a person.
Career prospects
Since I started at HEC in September, I began to gain interest in the Financial Sector. I personally believe that the skills from an engineering background together with the skills gained at HEC are a valuable asset for a financial institution.
For this reason, I have decided to specialize in Finance for my second year at HEC and to do a summer internship with a prestigious Investment Bank. Once I finish the Master in Management I look forward to starting my career there.
