Financial Times ranks HEC Paris as the best institution in the world for its Master in Finance

For the sixth consecutive year, HEC Paris has topped the Financial Times’ ranking for Masters in Finance pre-experience programs, a position it has held every year since the league table began in 2011. The program particularly distinguishes itself for international experience and alumni career progress.

Financial Times ranks HEC Paris as the best institution in the world for its Master in Finance - HEC Paris 2016

The FT's report (published on June 20th along with the ranking) shows that the 2008 crisis and the growing challenges of providing financial services caused by new regulation and new technology, have led to more interest in the Master in Finance degree programs. It is in this context of growing demand that HEC Paris has succeeded in holding on to the top worldwide ranking for six years.

The 2016 the FT ranking features 55 pre-experience courses from the world’s top business schools. Among the 18 criteria taken into account, HEC Paris’ MSc in International Finance (MIF) stands out thanks to its alumni international mobility (ranked #1), salaries (#2), and student satisfaction in attaining the program's goals. As an HEC Paris MIF graduate reported to the Financial Times, another advantage of the school is the strength of its alumni network: "HEC Paris provides excellent access to a network of people who are in key positions in top companies."

This network means that HEC Paris MIF students thus maximize their chances of securing a good job in investment banking or strategic consulting;  it can even set them up for entrepreneurship. As the FT noted: “Growth in demand for Masters in Finance degree programs is also being driven by students who have no intention of working in financial services."

Shivam Tripathi is an example of an MIF alumnus who has a taste for entrepreneurship. After graduating with his MSc in International Finance two years ago, he formed CamboTicket, a venture in Cambodia enabling travellers to buy bus tickets online. His business is the focus of an article in the FT, in which he says his HEC tutors gave him practical advice to get the ball rolling.

More than 80% of the MIF program comprises international students coming from the world’s most prestigious universities. The program is based on a unique pedagogy that combines world class researchers sharing their knowledge, with top notch practitioners from the finance industry who impart their practical know-how.

MIF Academic Director, Alexei Ovtchinnikov states: "We are very fortunate to be able to recruit the brightest and the hardest working students around the world who continue to inspire us to work harder and give 100% in the classroom every time."
