Daniel Bernard has been elected Chairman of the HEC Foundation. He takes over from Jean-Marie Hennes, Vice-President of Mars&Co, who has been named Honorary Chairman of the Foundation.
Mr Bernard, a graduate of the HEC MSc in Management, is President of Provestis, Vice-President of Kingfisher, member of the boards of directors of Alcatel-Lucent and Capgemini, former President-CEO of Carrefour and former CEO of Groupe Metro. As Bernard Ramanantsoa, Dean of HEC Paris, notes, "Daniel has made a significant contribution to HEC over the years both as an affiliate professor and as a member of the Advisory Board. His experience of international markets and his strong attachment to HEC Paris are great advantages for pursuing the HEC Foundation's development plan and building on the outstanding results obtained by Jean-Marie Hennes and his predecessors."
The HEC Foundation looks to the future
The HEC Foundation, which was created in 1972 by the HEC Alumni Association, works to develop management sciences and build strong links with partner companies and the HEC alumni community. In 2007, the HEC Foundation raised €6 million (up 80% from 2006), of which €4 million went to HEC's budget and €2 million was added to its endowment fund.
During his presidency, Mr Bernard will be focusing on two areas that are central to the Foundation's strategy for increasing HEC's international attractiveness. First, the continued development of HEC, notably by funding scholarships to ensure that neither distance nor social situation is an obstacle to studying at HEC, by recruiting the best professors, and by promoting scientific research. Second, the creation of an endowment fund, financed by donations from individuals and businesses, to provide a permanent source of revenue for ongoing efforts to raise the international profile of the HEC brand. Mr Bernard himself is a major benefactor of the HEC Foundation, focusing in particular on the development of the MBA Leadership Center. As he explains, "Today, competition is global among leading universities. We must work faster to reinforce HEC's position as the leader in Europe and enable it to progress at the world level."
