La Mode d'Après, a platform to remain responsible
Founded in January 2019 by two fashion and technology enthusiasts, Leaf is a start-up with an eco-responsible mission at the HEC Incubator at Station F. It is at the origin of the La Mode d'Après platform, which uses Artificial Intelligence to help find beautiful clothes and accessories close to home.

Founded in January 2019 by two fashion and technology enthusiasts, Leaf is an eco-responsible fashion tech accompanied by the HEC Incubator at Station F. It has just launched La Mode d'Après, a platform that helps its users to find fashion garments around them thanks to the daily analysis of information on tens of thousands of products from the most beautiful fashion boutiques in France.
Accompanied by historical players in the sector such as the Institut Français de la Mode, the trend agency NellyRodi and the Fédération Française du Prêt à Porter Féminin, Leaf has developed its application thanks to the contribution of a community of 130 micro-influencers in order to help lovers of the sector to go more responsibly..
Thibault Geoffray, co-founder and CEO of Leaf, explains the responsible dimension of the platform:
"The notion of responsibility has become much broader with current events. New trends are adding to the list and consuming "responsibly" has become complex":
- individual responsibility: limiting one's movements
- civic responsibility: fostering the local economy
- carbon responsibility: avoiding e-commerce deliveries
- ecological responsibility: buying eco-designed parts
we want to create the perfect solution to combine all these components in the best possible way, without forgetting that fashion shopping should above all remain a pleasure. So we developed an "in-house" algo to work on the stylistic universe of our users, the ultimate goal would be to become the "spotify of responsible fashion", the perfect piece for any occasion."
David Baussart, Co-founder and CTO, explains how it works:
"To achieve this, La Mode d'Après enables users to indicate their favourite brands in order to create a stylistic universe enriched with data from all users of the platform. This allows users to discover new brands that correspond to their style. To build the platform's catalog, La Mode d'Après absorbs the raw data from the brands and analyses the important properties of each piece to allow users to make advanced searches. Thus, a user looking for an "oversized jacket" will also see "loose blazers" appear in the results.
Leaf also detects the eco-responsible properties of the garments, such as "organic cotton t-shirt" or "dress made in France". With this data, the search engine highlights the most responsible parts of the brands, in order to give visibility to their eco-responsible initiatives and help users to buy better.
Once the perfect article has been found, the user can reserve it in the shop of his/her choice directly from the platform, indicating its size and the date on which he/she would like to try it on.
Two engineers, a double-impact solution
David Baussart and Thibault Geoffray meet during their first job as Data Scientist in a Big Data retail start-up. Neighbours in the office, and united around common values, they soon start launching projects in their spare time - that's how the Leaf project was born.
Both engineers are passionate about technology and fashion, and originally had the idea of creating a scanning app. They then quickly pivoted to develop an innovative solution to geolocate "fashion" parts, helping retailers to better manage their inventory and their customers to consume better:
"E-commerce deliveries and returns emit tons of CO2 and explode the impact of our web purchases. Leaf references the products of the shops located around you or on a route, and allows you to browse them. You can refine the geolocation and find a shop next to your work or your coffee shop. By doing so you emit on average 2.5x less than in e-commerce. "explains Thibault Geoffray, co-founder of Leaf.
"E-booking: less frustrating, more environmentally friendly. Once you've selected the item and the store, you can instantly reserve it on the date of your choice to ensure its availability. E-booking is also the most environmentally friendly way to make a purchase: by picking up your purchase, you avoid unnecessary travel and help brands to better anticipate store stocks and thus limit overproduction at the end of the chain! "he assures.
Have you ever dream of finding the perfect fashion item in one click, corresponding to your style, geolocated near home, and purchased in an eco-responsible way?!
