New York: Alberto Alemanno receives the Chauncey Starr Award

For his contributions to his fields of study, Professor Alberto Alemanno, Associate Professor at the Law department at HEC Paris, today received the prestigious Chauncey Starr Award from the Society for Risk Analysis (SRA). This award is for outstanding achievement by a young risk analyst in science or public policy who shows exceptional promise for continued contributions to risk analysis.

“I am very honored to be the recipient of the 2011 Chauncey Starr Award. The attribution of this award confirms the strength of HEC Paris’ choice to invest in emerging and cutting-edge research areas, such as risk regulation, that do not typically fit in with mainstream business schools’ curricula. I believe that a better understanding of the role played by business and government in shaping global regulation is crucial in today's economically-challenged and geopolitically-changing world”.
In October this year, Professor Alemanno was awarded a Jean Monnet Chair in European Union Law and Risk Regulation from the European Commission. This award, which is recognized as a sign of excellence in the academic community, will help to place HEC Paris on the map of EU and Regulation studies.

Professor Alemanno recently edited Governing Disasters - The Challenges of Emergency Risk Regulation (Edward Elgar Publishing, 2011) a comprehensive volume that diagnoses the complex combinations of natural disasters and flawed institutions that make these crises so difficult to manage.
