Leadership Professor Brad Harris Appointed as Associate Dean of MBA Programs at HEC Paris

Brad Harris, Ph.D., has been appointed to lead the HEC Paris MBA Programs as Associate Dean. He is succeeding Kristine de Valck, Professor of Marketing and Dean of Degree Programs at HEC Paris, who served as Interim Dean of the school’s MBA programs for the past year.

He joined HEC Paris more than a year ago as a Professor of Management and Human Resources. He taught and will continue to teach as a professor in the school’s MBA, Executive MBA, Ph.D., and Executive Education programs.  Prior to HEC Paris, he taught at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s School of Labor and Employment. His experience also includes teaching at Texas Christian University’s M.J. Neeley School of Business, where he was the Academic Director of the BNSF Neeley Leadership Program, and Texas A&M University. Brad Harris is a founding member of the People Leader Accelerator, the world’s premier leadership development program for human resources executives in high-growth organizations.

“Brad is an imaginative leader with business and academic experience. He has the vision for our MBA Programs, and I am confident he will inspire impact among students, faculty, and the greater HEC Paris community,” said Kristine de Valck. “Brad’s previous experience combined with his academic expertise, will help us develop our leadership offering, a foundational piece to our MBA Programs, and focus on offering courses that are both timely and timeless, and address the world’s biggest issues.

"It is an honor to be appointed as the Associate Dean for the MBA Programs at HEC Paris,” said Harris. "I am proud to lead these world-class programs and work with the renowned professors who make them such a life-changing experience. Likewise, I am thrilled to work with such a talented and global student body. We already have a strong foundation, and my first priority is protecting our reputation and the great aspects of the program that have been built over the years. Our purpose is to build leaders with the character, competence and courage to change the world. If we are able to look back on the classes we graduate in the coming years and feel like they’re prepared to make a difference, I believe we’ll be proud of our work."

Brad’s research and teaching interests include leadership, team dynamics, and HR systems in rapidly growing organizations. Brad has received multiple teaching awards and was named a top “40 under 40 Business School Professor” by Poets and Quants. He has co-authored two books, Scaling for Success: People Priorities for High-Growth Organizations (Columbia, 2021) and 3D Team Leadership: A New Approach for Complex Teams (Stanford, 2017), and published research papers in leading journals including the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, and Journal of Management. Brad’s work has been cited in leading popular press outlets, including the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Harvard Business Review, NBC’s The Today Show, Inc.com, and Fast Company. He is a former Associate Editor at the Journal of Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management, and currently serves on the Editorial Boards of Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Journal of Management, The Leadership Quarterly, and Journal of Business and Psychology. He earned his Ph.D. in Management from Texas A&M University and maintains a joint appointment at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Brad’s most important role is being a father of three children.
