Jose Ignacio Lopez earned a Ph.D. in Economics from University of California (UCLA) in 2011. His main research interests are in the fields of Macroeconomics and International Economics.
His research focuses on business cycles, the role of the differences in productivity across households and firms, and the role of financial imperfections for the dynamics of aggregate variables such as output and employment. Before finishing his Ph.D. he spent some time as invited researcher at the Federal Reserve of St. Louis. He also worked at Citibank Colombia in the Treasury Desk and was the Head Economist of Banco Santander Colombia. His working experience also includes strategy and applied macroeconomic research for the Fixed Income team of Santader Investment New York and consulting work for the Latin American Reserve Fund.
He is an active member of the Econometric Society and has been referee for the Journal of International Economics . Since he joined HEC in 2011 he has been teaching the Macroeconomics Part of the Business Economics class in the MBA program.
