Philippe Mongin is Senior Research Fellow with the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique and has been an Affiliate Professor of economics and philosophy at HEC Paris since 2006. He holds an agrégation in philosophy and a Ph.D. in economic science, and has dedicated a large part of his research work to economic theory and its conceptual and mathematical foundations.

His work has been published among others in the Journal of Economic Theory and Economics and Philosophy, which he managed from 1995 to 2000. His main research interests include issues raised by instrumental rationality hypotheses and by the collective aggregation of judgments and preferences. He also used formal logic to study individual and strategic decision-making models. This work was published in Synthese, Games and Economic Behavior, Journal of Philosophical Logic.

Philippe Mongin has taught as a Visiting Professor at the following foreign institutions: Université Catholique de Louvain (from 1988 to 1990 and 1992 to 1996), University of British Columbia (1996, 1998), London School of Economics (1998-2000), California Institute of Technology (2003) and Yale University (2008). He entered the French Prime Minister's Economic analysis council in 2006, where he participated in the creation of the earned income supplement (revenu de solidarité active - RSA) in 2007-2008. At HEC, he is in charge of the « Sciences de la Décision » major, which he created in 2009.
