Marguerite Gallant, Head of the HEC UK Office

Head of the HEC UK Office

The United Kingdom is a favored destination among HEC students and graduates; more than 2000 of them stay and work in the city of London. The HEC UK Office’s works as the heart of promoting HEC on the whole British market.

Marguerite, could you introduce yourself?

When I graduated from HEC, I took up a position in strategic marketing within the equity derivatives unit at BNP Paribas in London. After that, I headed-up the product marketing department of the company in Paris, then in London where I managed a 15-person team. Afterward, I worked in sales/business development for institutional clients in the United Kingdom and Ireland, before joining Barclays to take over the financial institutions clients in United Kingdom, Ireland, and Benelux.

Four years later, I applied to be the HEC UK Office manager. The office opened in January 2014 and it’s a fantastic adventure so far!

What are the HEC UK Office’s main activities?

The HEC UK Office aims at developing HEC’s reputation in the United Kingdom. Therefore, we build closer ties with British companies in order to increase job and internship opportunities for HEC students. In particular, we invite British companies to take part in our international career fairs on campus and we promote opportunities for them to interact with the students. The Office must also promote HEC Paris’ programs for the purpose of recruiting British students for the Master in Management – Grande École program, the Masters of Science and the Specialized Masters, as well as for the MBA and the Executive Education programs. Besides, getting HEC Paris’ name known leads us to focus on our relationships with academic and institutional partners. Finally, the HEC UK Office takes advantage of HEC Paris’ main asset on the field, its alumni, providing them with ideas and support, so that they remain keen on getting involved in the school’s promotion.

To what extent does the HEC education represent a springboard to the British job market?

As I’ve been working abroad for 13 years, I’ve realized how solid the education imparted by HEC is. HEC graduates are very appreciated by companies and have impressive career paths. Moreover, HEC’s  alumni network is strong and helpful. This is priceless when you’re searching for your first job or looking to change position or company. A HEC graduate only has to pick up his/her phone to get in touch with experts in any field ready to help.

Furthermore, HEC students can count on the Career Service and International Offices’ support in London, New York, Tokyo and Berlin, which contribute to building long-term relations with recruiters.

In which sectors do HEC graduates work in the United Kingdom?

In the United Kingdom, HEC graduates work in consulting as well as in marketing, the media, technology and start-ups! There is an “Alumni Entrepreneur Hub” here in London that is growing fast with many “startupers” wishing to launch or develop their business on the British market. Also HEC Paris’ reputation in finance is excellent: HEC is the primary recruiting ground in Europe for many prestigious investment banks.
