The President of the CCI Paris Ile-de-France has chosen Peter TODD for the position of Dean of HEC Paris.

8 July 2015

This nomination will take effect September 1st, 2015.

At the invitation of Pierre-Antoine GAILLY, President of the CCI Paris Ile-de-France, Peter TODD has accepted to become the Dean of HEC Paris, succeeding Bernard RAMANANTSOA who has been at the head of HEC since 1995. During his tenure, Bernard RAMANANTSOA has been able to greatly transform the school by giving it a true international dimension, ensuring renowned academic excellence and developing management research.

For more than 25 years, Peter TODD, a renowned researcher and professor in the fields of innovation management and information technologies, has gained significant experience in managing degree programs (specifically MBA) and Executive Education programs, before becoming Dean of a Business School.

With a PhD from the University of British Columbia, Peter TODD was first a professor at Queens School of Business (Ontario) then at the University of Houston (Texas). In 1999, while Peter TODD was Associate Dean of the Business School, the school was awarded a naming gift of $40 million.

In 2001, Peter TODD joined the prestigious McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia. From 2005 to 2014, he was Dean of the McGill Desautels Faculty of Management, based in Montreal. In this position, he managed more than 200 colleagues, including 100 professors. (With almost 2,500 students, the McGill Desautels Faculty of Management offers a variety of degree programs from the undergraduate to the doctoral level). At McGill, he successfully undertook bold reforms that resulted in the development of a portfolio of programs, the internationalization of the school and the significant increase in the school’s ability to self-finance.

The choice of Peter TODD as head of HEC was decided after an exhaustive selection process that was both open and transparent.

The selection committee, under the leadership of Etienne GUYOT, General Director of the CCI Paris Ile-de-France, worked from January to June 2015 to independently study more than twenty candidates. Seven finalists advanced to the last stage and underwent an intensive interview process about their experience and strategic plans for HEC. The final decision was taken by the President of the CCI Paris Ile-de-France, Pierre-Antoine GAILLY, after consulting with Bernard RAMANANTSOA.

It will be Peter TODD’s mission to confirm and increase HEC’s remarkable development in recent years. Continuation of academic excellence, internationalization, the improvement of performance in research and, in connection with the HEC Foundation and Alumni Association, boosting fundraising: this is the roadmap entrusted to the new Dean of HEC.

“Peter TODD’s experience and his desire to pursue HEC’s rise into a Top 10 global Business School, his dual English and French speaking cultures, his expertise in the field of educational innovation, his determination and persuasiveness, his openness and collaborative spirit- these are all assets to carry forward the ambitious program of the HEC group that will gain a new dimension at the start of 2016 by adopting the status of EESC (Etablissement d’Enseignement Supérieur Consulaire),”  highlights Pierre Antoine GAILLY, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Paris Ile-de-France, himself a graduate of HEC.
