Biographie

Armin Steinbach est actuellement en congé pour occuper le poste de directeur général au ministère allemand des Finances, chargé de la stratégie économique et budgétaire.

Armin Steinbach est titulaire de la Chaire Jean Monnet et de la Chaire Fondation HEC de d’analyse économique du droit à HEC Paris, ainsi que professeur invité au London School of Economics (LSE) et chercheur non-residentiel chez think-tank Bruegel à Bruxelles. Avant de rejoindre HEC Paris, Armin a été Gwilym Gibbon Fellow au Collège Nuffield de l’Université d’Oxford, Senrio Fellow au Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective Goods à Bonn, titulaire d’une bourse Jean Monnet à l’Institut européen de l’Université de Florence, professeur visitant à l’Université de St. Gall et au Centre d’Etudes Européennes de l’Université d’Harvard.

Au cours de ses précédentes fonctions dans l’administration publique allemande, Armin a dirigé la division de la politique financière au ministère allemand des Finances et avant la division de la politique économique au ministère de l'Économie et de l'Énergie. Il a travaillé à l’Organisation Mondiale du Commerce (OMC) à Genève ainsi que comme avocat chez Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton à Bruxelles. Armin a été nommé comme expert auprès de l’organe de règlement des différends de l’OMC.

Fort de sa double expérience dans le monde académique et au sein de l’administration publique, la recherche d’Armin est foncièrement interdisciplinaire et permet de créer des ponts entre la recherche académique et les politiques publiques. Outre ses nombreux articles scientifiques et ses différents ouvrages, il écrit également pour la presse : Le Monde, Les Echos, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Die Zeit et Handelsblatt.

Armin a obtenu son habilitation de l’Université de Bonn pour laquelle il a reçu le Prix Scientifique de la German Society of Legislation. Il est détenteur d’un doctorat de Droit de l’Université de Munich et d’un doctorat d’Economie de l’Université d’Erfurt. Il est diplômé d’un Master en Droit de l'Université Vrij de Bruxelles (VUB) et d’un Master d’Economie de l’Université Humboldt de Berlin.
