Yang Ding

Assistant Professor, EMLV (France)

Accounting and Management Control

Yang Ding, PhD AMC, 2021

As a PhD student at HEC Paris, I engaged with the dynamic research community by collaborating with faculty members and other PhD students. Systemics and tailored PhD coursework prepared me for a future academic career by gaining knowledge of current literature and relevant research methodologies. Moreover, the program offered additional financial support that allowed me to attend visiting positions in international institutions, top academic conferences and doctoral consortium events to share my research ideas to develop my essential skills as a researcher.

Communicating with your professors and peers will help you generate research ideas and improve your own work.

Why did you decide to join the HEC Paris PhD program?

HEC Paris is a well-known and top-tier research business school in worldwide. The highly respected faculty members provide students with mentorship and access to research facilities, which enables students to explore their research interest fully. Also, the welcoming environment also generates an equal and diversifying learning environment. The PhD program provided me comprehensive training on the theory building and research methods. Faculty members publishing in the leading journals interact and work with PhD students by sharing research ideas and building up research projects. Well-funded PhD program by the HEC Foundation also allowed me to access research opportunities such as exchange in other institutions and attending conferences.

What advice would you give to someone who would like to pursue a PhD?

My advice for prospective students: PhD coursework is well designed at HEC. If you take full use of these resources at HEC, you can develop a solid foundation for your future research. Also communicating with your professors and peers will help you generate research ideas and improve your own work.
