Cookies and Other Trackers Policy

Updated: February 26, 2024

This cookies policy (hereinafter referred to as the "Policy") is intended to inform users of the website https://www.hec.edu/fr (hereinafter referred to as the "Site") of how HEC Paris and the HEC Foundation use cookies and of the options available to users to accept and refuse cookies and to manage their preferences.

Cookies are placed on the end devices (computers, smartphones, tablets) of visitors, customers, prospects or users of the Site (hereinafter referred to as the "User") who browse the Site and/or use the Site's functionalities (hereinafter the "Services"). Cookies are text files that websites can use to make the user experience more effective.

Different types of Cookies are stored on the User's device through our website by various partners.

Technical Cookies are Cookies that are essential to the Site's functionality. They do not track User behavior or identify the User. They are stored by default and cannot be deactivated by the User because without them, the User cannot use the Site normally. These Cookies are stored for the following purposes:

  • To contribute to the security of the requested Site or Service,
  • To allow the User to use the Site's main features,
  • To maintain a trace of the User's choice as to the storage of non-technical Cookies.

If the User consents via the Site's Cookie banner, these Cookies help to compile visitor and usage statistics for the Site's various components (sections and content visited, journeys). These Cookies are stored for the following purposes:

  • To understand the Site's audience through statistics or combining data from different sources,
  • To develop and improve the Site's Services using information about the User's activity on the Site.

If the User consents via the Site's Cookie banner, Cookies that allow personalized advertisements and content to be displayed, without using the User's geolocation, will be stored on their device. These Cookies are stored for the following purposes:

  • To store and/or access information about the User's device to recognize it on each of their future visits for one or more of the purposes listed below,
  • To create profiles for personalized advertising,
  • To create profiles of personalized content,
  • To actively analyze the device's characteristics to identify it,
  • To use limited data (such as an approximate location, the site visited and the type of device) to select targeted advertisements,
  • To use profiles to select personalized advertisements,
  • To use profiles to select personalized content.

If the User consents via the Site's Cookie banner, some of our partners will use their precise location data (within a radius of less than 500 meters) to:

  • Store and access this geolocation information to display targeted advertising,
  • Store and access this geolocation information to carry out marketing studies to gain a better understanding of the market.

If the User consents via the Site's Cookie banner, these Cookies are stored for the following purposes:

  • To measure the performance of personalized advertisements to determine how effective they have been for the User,
  • To measure the performance of personalized content to determine whether this content has reached its target audience and matches the User's areas of interest.

For technical Cookies:

In accordance with the applicable regulations, HEC Paris and the HEC Foundation may place Cookies on the User's device without consent when these Cookies are strictly necessary for the Site to function. Storing these Cookies only requires prior information.

For other types of Cookies:

Storing non-technical Cookies requires the User's prior consent. The first time the User visits the Site, an informational banner about Cookies is shown. On this banner, the User can:

  • Accept or refuse all non-technical Cookies on their device by clicking on the buttons "Accept and close" or "Refuse and close",
  • Accept only certain non-technical Cookies by clicking on the "Configure" button.

Refusing non-technical Cookies will not restrict the User's access to the site; however, it may limit the features that the User can use.

HEC Paris will store the User's choices (consent or refusal) about Cookies for a period of six (6) months. Once this period has expired, the User's choice will be requested when they visit the Site again.

At any time, the User can withdraw their consent or change their choices about non-technical Cookies by clicking on the link below or on the "Cookie Preferences" link available on all pages of the Site.

Cookie Preferences

Cookies are called "persistent" when they stay on the User's device until they expire or until the User deletes them. Cookies are called "session cookies" when they disappear automatically once the User closes their browser.

Persistent Cookies can be stored on the User's device for a period of 13 months from the time they are stored or the User's consent is gathered.

By definition, session Cookies expire at the end of the User's Internet session.

The Policy can be updated at any time to reflect changes to the applicable regulations. The User is encouraged to review this Policy regularly as well as its date of update.
