Le prochain séminaire de recherche de l'Institut S&O aura lieu le 6 octobre de 12h30 à 14h30.

Nous aurons le grand plaisir de recevoir un invité très spécial: Philippe Maupas, consultant et blogger, ancien directeur général de Morning Star France (voir sa biographie en anglais ci-dessous). Dans sa présentation "De omnibus dubitandum est", Philippe reviendra sur 3 scandales financiers récents. Une session de questions/réponses suivra.

Dans la deuxième partie de ce séminaire, nous aurons le plaisir d'accueillir Pablo Baquero, post-doc dans le département de Droit d'HEC. Il nous présentera son livre "Networks of Collaborative Contracts for Innovation" dont vous trouverez l'abstract en anglais ci-dessous. Une session de questions/réponses suivra.

Title: De omnibus dubitandum est
Teaser: In plain English, "Everything must be doubted". This latin maxim applies to the world of investment products too. And not only to cases of fraud, but to the world of legitimate investment funds, where it can turn out to be unreasonable to buy the lethal combination of an impressive past performance and a star fund manager touted by a myriad of enablers. Those enablers usually have impeccable credentials, like in the case of Wirecard.
I'll discuss three recent cases: two in the asset management world involving Neil Woodford, aka "The man who can't stop making money", and H2O AM. And an outright fraud, Wirecard.

Philippe Maupas is a graduate of HEC Paris (1987), he started his career in business and financial media groups. He was CEO of Morningstar France from 2001 to 2005. He co-founded Quantalys, a Fintech providing fund analytics and portfolio construction tools, in 2007, and Alpha
& K, one of the few financial advisors exclusively compensated by its clients in France, in 2018. He earned several financial designations: CFA, CIPM, CAIA, and was chair of CFA Society France from 2012 to 2015. He's been a member of the Disciplinary Review
Committee of CFA Institute since 2015.

Title of his book: Networks of Collaborative Contracts for Innovation

Abstract: With the rise of automation and artificial intelligence, the companies that will succeed in the future are those who operate under a constant state of innovation.Not just that, they will often need to ensure that they pursue 'open innovation'. This book explores the contractual basis for innovation, examining the legal challenges raised by contracts to innovate. Offering a dual perspective, it takes an empirical approach to examine how agreements are structured to overcome the inherent uncertainty implicit in innovative activity.It also presents a legal framework for contracts to innovate, based on the duty of loyalty to the contractual network, which could provide guidance to navigate the uncertainty of these relationships
