What will it take to shape the future? Amid technological disruption, political and social divisions, and geopolitical tensions, leaders must build real human connections, establish trust across differences, and mobilize collective action. They must navigate tensions between analytical judgment and intuition, political pragmatism and courageous action, unwavering convictions and human empathy.

As machines absorb analytical work and (dis)information proliferates, deeply human capacities - intuition, empathy, trust, and the courage to act under uncertainty - will become the scarcest and most valuable leadership skills. The Future of Leadership Certificate helps current and prospective leaders develop these capacities through research-backed instruction, rich experiential activities, and interactions with effective and inspirational leaders.

Drawing on psychology, the liberal arts, strategy, economics, and technology, the certificate examines leadership from the inside out: from self-knowledge, behavioral tendencies, and judgment to influence, purpose, and trust, then geopolitics, complexity, and acting with conviction in a volatile world. Participants learn from top faculty and leaders across the corporate world and beyond, take part in field visits, and engage in career development with outstanding coaches and facilitators.

 

The Future of Leadership Certificate will enable students to develop their skills in the following areas:

• Lead themselves with clarity. Understand their own values, behavioral tendencies, strengths, and blind spots, and lead from a stable center under pressure.
• Strengthen their interpersonal and relational skills. Read people, build trust, and lead through relationships rather than position, in a world where connection is increasingly rare and increasingly decisive.
• Exercise sound judgment and decision-making. Decide well with incomplete information, under time pressure, when the data will not resolve the question.
• Act with courage in a complex world. Make sense of turbulent, contradictory conditions and commit to a direction worth pursuing, even amid uncertainty.
  
   

The program follows a micro-to-macro arc, beginning with the self and widening toward the systems in which leaders operate.

• Finding the leader within (in the age of AI). The certificate opens with foundational work on leadership and self-awareness. Participants look inward to define their values, understand their behavioral tendencies, and take honest stock of their strengths and weaknesses.
• The roots and expressions of leadership. The program broadens into richer, cross-disciplinary perspectives: evolutionary insights into status, dominance, and how humans have always organized themselves around leaders, alongside the lessons that art and the liberal arts offer about perception, emotion, and the human condition. A dedicated leadership assessment center gives participants a mirror from which to build a rich development plan.
• Leadership in a turbulent world. The program then shifts from the psychological to the systemic, examining leadership through the lens of geopolitics and global complexity (i.e., the volatile terrain on which modern leaders must operate). From there, the program turns toward understanding the concept of purpose: how leaders find, articulate, and act on a sense of meaning that motivates others beyond formal authority.
• Final deliverable. The certificate culminates in an integrative experience and deliverable in which participants bring together what they have learned, apply it to a meaningful challenge, and chart a course for their continuing leadership development. (Details to be confirmed.)
