HEC Research on Creativity in Diverse Online Teams Honored with Award
Professor Shirish C. Srivastava and co-authors receive the Best Paper Award from the prestigious Journal of the Association for Information Systems (JAIS).

HEC Paris is delighted to announce that Shirish C. Srivastava, professor in the Information Systems & Operations Management Department at HEC Paris, along with his co-authors, Professors Anuragini Shirish and Imed Boughzala, have been honored with the annual JAIS Best Published Paper Award for a paper published in 2023. The Journal of the Association for Information Systems is the premier journal of the Association for Information Systems, USA.
The professor’s awarded paper is titled “Contextualizing Team Adaptation for Fostering Creative Outcomes in Multicultural Virtual Teams: A Mixed Methods Approach”.
The study examines how cultural intelligence (CQ) drives creativity in global virtual teams (GVTs), where cultural diversity both enriches and complicates collaboration.
Extending CQ theory to virtual team contexts, the authors propose an integrative framework showing how CQ dimensions foster adaptive behaviors—both surface-level and deep-level—that enable creative outcomes.
Using a mixed methods design combining surveys and expert interviews, the study offers theoretical insights and practical guidance for enhancing creativity in multicultural virtual teams.
