Summer Student Story
The program taught me that financial innovation is as critical as technical innovation in driving sustainable change.
Joining the HEC Paris Energy Transition Summer Program proved transformative for both my career and my company. In my role in lubricant manufacturing and refining, I possessed solid technical expertise but lacked insight into the broader business and financial structures driving the energy shift. This program offered the ideal opportunity to close that gap and deepen my understanding of how investment strategies and policy choices shape industrial change. My principal activities center on operational efficiency and environmental care, and HEC Paris provided not only top-tier academics but also a vibrant outlook focused on sustainable progress.
During two intensive weeks, the program taught me that financial innovation is as critical as technical innovation in driving sustainable change, which we also applied through impromptu group projects. Our capstone investment proposal required a detailed renewable investment plan, and collaborating with colleagues from finance, policy, and solar energy sectors helped me balance R&D projections with financial viability. Building renewable portfolios using blended finance knowledge transformed how I direct capital in industrial settings and sharpened my strategic skills in areas that initially seemed less prominent.
Insights from professors proved essential for navigating real financial decisions in the energy sector and planning long-term strategies for emerging companies like mine.
The program’s insights have reshaped my career path and our company’s approach. I have introduced green models and comprehensive environmental oversight systems. These steps support India’s goal of 50% solar adoption at fuel stations and to improve waste handling. Thanks to the program’s focus on regulations, I have managed complex approvals, certifications, and pollution board clearances while adding support for alternative fuels at our station.
I strongly endorse this program for any student or professional in heavy industry aiming to lead the energy shift. It prepared me to support a balanced transition plan that meets today’s needs while advancing tomorrow’s renewable targets. As they say at HEC Paris, "The more you know, the more you dare." I left with that conviction and with like-minded friends who share my commitment to making the world a better place.
