Data Science & AI

HEC Paris changed the way I approach Data Science - not only as a technical discipline, but as a tool to understand real problems and create meaningful solutions.

I studied Actuarial Science at ITAM in Mexico City, and I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in Data Science. Throughout my academic and professional experience, I have developed a strong quantitative and technical background, working with Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and cloud technologies. However, before HEC Paris, I had never had the opportunity to study abroad.

I chose the Data Science & AI Summer School Program because I wanted to step outside my usual academic environment and experience a more international and applied perspective on a field that I am deeply passionate about. HEC Paris offered exactly that.

One of the aspects I valued most was the emphasis on learning through practical cases. We worked on real-world problems that challenged us to go beyond simply choosing a model or applying a technique. We had to understand the problem first, think about how data could create value, and communicate our ideas effectively. This complemented my technical training and changed the way I approach Data Science - a good solution is not necessarily the most complex one, but the one that best connects technology with a real need.

A particularly memorable part of the program was our visit to Station F. Seeing such a large and dynamic startup ecosystem firsthand was impressive. I was amazed by the scale of the space and by being surrounded by entrepreneurs and companies working on innovative ideas. It made the connection between technology, entrepreneurship and real-world impact much more tangible, and showed me possibilities for Data Science and AI beyond the traditional classroom.

The international experience was equally important to me. Studying and working with classmates from different countries and backgrounds exposed me to perspectives I had never encountered before. Sharing ideas, solving problems together and learning how others approached the same challenges pushed me outside my comfort zone and made me realize how much diversity can enrich the way we think about Data Science.

Beyond the classroom, living on the HEC Paris campus, meeting people from around the world and experiencing Paris made these two weeks particularly meaningful. What began as my first academic experience abroad became an experience that genuinely changed the way I see my professional future. It gave me the confidence and motivation to continue looking for international opportunities and to imagine a career that extends beyond the environment I already know.

I would recommend the HEC Paris Summer School to anyone who wants to complement their academic knowledge with a more practical and international perspective. Come ready to participate, meet people, challenge your assumptions and step outside your comfort zone. Two weeks may seem short, but for me, they were enough to change the way I think about Data Science and about where it can take me.
