Gianni Ioli

Gianni Ioli

Class of 2019

Gianni-Ioli

I was inspired by the quality of the teachers on the program

Before arriving at HEC Paris, Gianni earned a degree in engineering from the EOST (École et Observatoire des Sciences de la Terre) in Strasbourg, after two years of classes préparatoires. He began a career as a geophysicist, first in France and then in the US, before moving to London where he worked for 18 months at CGG, a geophysics engineering company.

A program opening the door to many opportunities

I wanted to acquire new skills to complement my engineering background and open more doors for myself in the energy sector, which I has always fascinated me. I wanted to be involved in a job where I could apply my scientific knowledge in a business environment, and thought the MSc Managerial and Financial Economics at HEC Paris provided a fantastic opportunity to gain the knowledge in economics and finance which I felt I lacked.

A balance between subjects and an international student body

I believe one of the highlights of this program is the balance between economics and finance, which teaches students how to interpret a wide range of business matters with diligence and breadth of knowledge. I was able to select modules based on my career preferences and personal ambitions. I also value the fact that the program is taught entirely in English and therefore attracts many international students.

Star teaching and fantastic networking

I was inspired by the quality of the teachers on the program and took part in some of the numerous challenges offered by HEC, such as case studies for CACIB and BNP. These were a great opportunity to improve my teamwork abilities and learn how to meet tight deadlines. HEC’s student and alumni network allowed me to learn from my peers and former students during different fairs and events. These were particularly crucial in helping me better understand the banking sector and refine my career plan. Finally, the many conferences organized at HEC have been a fantastic opportunity to receive advice from big players in the industry or simply discover a different point of view on society.

HEC Paris allowed me to reach my goal of transitioning towards a more finance-oriented job and I will soon begin work as a corporate investment banker.
