Program overview

 

The Certificate in Asset Management is designed for executives, high performers, and finance professionals who aim to acquire in-depth knowledge and practical skills in key areas of finance related to asset management.  The program focuses on cutting-edge tools and techniques to invest in financial and real assets with the goal of reducing the overall risk and maximizing the return on investments. It provides a thorough understanding of the risk and return of financial instruments, macroeconomic and country risk, investor relations, sustainable investing, behavioral investing, and other topics related to asset management. The certificate relies on world-class teaching by outstanding HEC Paris faculty, including renowned researchers with executive-education experience and high-level investment bankers and consultants. 

The program is comprised of a 10-day module with regular courses, courses, and the completion of a 2-day certificate project either in person or remotely. The certificate project gives participants the opportunity to apply the investing tools learned during the module on a challenging individual project. The project is done under the supervision of an experienced, world-class HEC faculty tutor.

The program is aimed at:

Finance directors in all sectors, current and aspiring corporate executives, bankers and financial services experts, and other experienced professionals: managers who wish to move to a more senior role (CEO, CFO, CIO, COO), executive board members, senior leaders, or private equity/venture capital/startup/family office founders.

Learning methods and evaluations

Learning methods:

Participants will benefit from the different pedagogical approaches of professors with vast executive education experience. The teaching of leading research academics is complemented by the hands-on expertise of carefully selected, top-level practitioners from the world of finance. All the skills and know-how acquired during the program are immediately transferable to real-life business situations. This highly international executive certificate program is taught exclusively in English.

Evaluations:

Participants are evaluated along multiple dimensions: group work write-ups or presentations on projects or case studies, quizzes, in-class or take-home exercises, multiple-choice questionnaires, final exams, post-class analyses, and class participation. The weights instructors choose among all these dimensions vary with each class.

Program

 

The program is 12 days long (excluding the online refresher courses) and includes one module of 4 days (which starts on a Wednesday and finishes on Saturday) and one module of 8 days (which starts on a Wednesday and finishes on the Thursday that follows, with Sunday being free). In addition to these modules, three optional online sessions on accounting and finance are offered before the program starts as refresher material.


Investment Opportunity Set, Efficient Frontier, optimal portfolios, Black-Litterman models, practical issues of asset allocation.

Market efficiency and arbitrage, asset performance, manager performance, investment horizon, hedge funds, mutual funds, pension funds, Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), passive investing, smart beta strategies, ESG investing, liquidity and trading costs, asset management in practice, the financial ecosystem.

Money intermediaries, business models, R&D driven business models, growth/no growth industries, interviewing management, uncovering corporate fraud, ESG considerations. 

National accounting, GDP, inflation, business cycles, central banks, monetary policy, balance of payments, current account, exchange rates, Uncovered Interest Parity (UIP), country risk.

Investor Relations (IR) and valuation, IR for listed companies, IR for investment funds, Equity Story methodology, IR and sustainability, financial storytelling.

Behavioral science, rational agents and human investors, common biases in judgement, common biases in group decision, debiasing investors.


The Certificate in Finance – Asset Management gives you the opportunity to follow the Executive MSc in Finance, if you meet the admission requirements.
