S&P Global published as its "Chart of the week" the 2021 edition of the annual HEC-DowJones Private Equity Performance Rankings which was developed by Oliver Gottschalg, strategy and business policy professor at HEC Paris Business School.

In a new study, professor at HEC Paris Tomasz Obloj and Todd Zenger from the University of Utah monitored the impact of pay transparency on pay equity and pay equality. The results showed that pay inequality and inequity both tend to drop when pay transparency is implemented. As CNBC reports it, greater pay transparency can lead to three different outcomes: employers may adjust the salaries of those most underpaid and overpaid, or individuals may also seek work elsewhere based on salary injustices, thus leading employers to reassess their pay. But another possible consequence is that the correlation between performance and pay may be weakened.

The logic of making compensation transparent is that it becomes harder to pay people unfairly when salaries are open to public scrutiny. A new study supports this argument with data.

Tomasz Obloj of HEC Paris and Todd Zenger from the University of Utah’s business school compiled the salaries of almost 100,000 US-based academics in eight states over a period of 14 years. Their findings, set to be published in the journal Nature Human Behaviour later this year, show that pay transparency had a big effect on both pay equity—how fairly the academics were paid, particularly in regards to gender—and on pay equality—how similarly the academics were paid compared with their peers, writes Quartz. 

Design thinking, a “human-centered” approach to problem-solving based on empathy towards customers in order to find a solution which will best solve their problems, is increasingly included in executive education programs. However, design thinking stands out by its need to be not only studied but more importantly practiced: "Students need to experiment in order to feel the discomfort, uncertainty and divergence associated with any innovation endeavor", explains to the media Executive Courses Sihem Jouini, associate professor in the Information Systems and Operations Management department at HEC Paris Business School.

Alberto Alemanno, law professor at HEC Paris Business School commented: "The president is somebody who can allow the European Parliament to advance their political goals and defend its prerogatives. But it will depend on their personality, and their political affiliation."
