Sam Aflaki
Sam Aflaki is Professor and Chair of the Information Systems and Operations Management Department at HEC Paris. He develops AI-powered, data-driven models to guide sustainable decision-making in operations and supply chains.
Sam’s research tackles today’s critical challenge: how to operate and grow responsibly in a world marked by uncertainty, complexity, and climate urgency. He builds rigorous tools for decision making in high-stakes operational contexts - for example, scaling energy-efficiency projects, managing circularity in the renewable energy sector, improving supply chain resilience, and designing due diligence policies that foster responsible procurement. His goal is to help both organizations and policy makers translate sustainability commitments into concrete, resilient operational choices that generate long-term value.
Published in top-tier academic journals, Sam’s work blends game theory, behavioral modeling, and applied analytics. He is the French co-director of the Industrial Excellence Award and regularly advises companies and public institutions on sustainability and resilience strategies. He teaches across all HEC programs - including the Executive MBA - and was named one of the world’s top undergraduate business professors by Poets & Quants.
Sam has contributed to make his research accessible on HEC website and in the press on topics ranging from supply chain resilience and gender equity in operations to how AI can enable performance-based energy-efficiency contracts.
