‘The Ethics of Managing People’s Data’ Article Named an HBR Data Strategy Essential

The HBR article by HEC Paris professors Dominique Rouziès and Michael Segalla titled, The Ethics of Managing People’s Data, is named an essential reading by HBR and included in its “Ten Must Reads” on Data Strategy.

In 2023, the research by HEC Paris professors Dominique Rouziès and Michael Segalla, titled "The Ethics of Managing People's Data," was featured in the Harvard Business Review (HBR) 2023 July/August edition. It was later published in six of HBR international editions. Now, in 2025, the article is included in the highly selective HBR’s 10 Must Reads on Data Strategy, published on June 17. This year’s edition features a preface written by Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft.

HBR’s 10 Must Reads books are curated collections of influential ideas and best practices on specific topics, drawn from the pages of the leading journal in management.

Michael Segalla is Emeritus Professor of Management at HEC Paris. Throughout his career, he has lectured on Board Governance, Data Privacy, AI Ethics, Management, Human Resources, and Cross-Cultural Investment Risk at renowned institutions around the world. He is HEC Paris's most published contributor to Harvard Business Review and its international editions.

Dominique Rouziès is Professor in Marketing and Sales at HEC Paris and Academic Dean of BMI Executive Institute. In 2023, she received the American Marketing Association Sales SIG’s Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of her contribution to the fields of sales and sales management.

This new book is scheduled for release June 2025. It will be available for purchase online at HBR.org and major retailers, as well as in bookstores-including prominent placement in airport shops. Copies will also be available at the HEC Learning Center by the end of June 2025.
