Expertise in finance, energy transition and credit markets

Associate Professor at HEC Paris and holder of the Pierre Andurand Chair in Sustainability, Olivier Darmouni studies how finance shapes the real economy. A specialist in credit markets, energy transition and monetary policy, he examines how financial frictions influence corporate investment, access to capital and the pace of decarbonization.

His research focuses on the financing of the energy transition, the fragility of non-bank financial institutions and the effects of monetary policy on firms. He also studies ownership structures in Europe’s coal sector and the tensions between energy security, green finance and climate objectives.

Before joining HEC Paris, Olivier Darmouni taught at Columbia Business School in New York. He graduated from the London School of Economics and the Toulouse School of Economics, before earning a PhD in Economics from Princeton University.

His work has been published in leading academic journals including the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics and the Review of Financial Studies. In 2025, he received the IEF/SCOR Foundation Award for Best Young Researcher in Finance and Insurance.
