E-learning system management using the blackboard platform
Information document regarding HEC Paris’ processing of personal data
HEC Paris, headquartered at 8 avenue de la Porte de Champerret, 75017 Paris, operates an online learning management system that provides access to educational content such as documents, videos, presentations and articles, and which allows students to take multiple choice quizzes, tests and exams during courses and to submit assignments in a training system.
A monitoring is realized and recorded by the platform during the access and navigation in the user space. All these elements will become available to the teacher. If relevant, the teacher can monitor, using the dashboard, the student’s performance based on the engagement indicators as set by the teacher and alert him if the learner has difficulties.
The legal base of the data processing is the mission in the general public interest (cf. Article 6(1)(e)) of the General Data Protection Regulation in accordance with the Education Code (Article L 131-2).
The data are collected directly from the concerned people. The data processing does not provide a full automated individual decision.
The collected categories of data are: identity, identification data (internal and school identification) and civil status (gender and civility), elements of school life for learners and professional life for employees and teachers, the email address @hec.fr or @hec.edu, connection data including cookies and logs and other data such as homework, comments, in discussion forums and chats, messages, video personal or collective presentation.
Staff, teachers and speakers, students and participants in training at HEC Paris who have an account to access HEC Paris' network and application resources.
The data is managed by the concerned administrative and teaching staff of HEC Paris and consulted by the other students of the course as soon as it is published in the scope of the said course. HEC Paris IT Department staff and the company in charge of the operation and maintenance of the platform may also access the data, for this sole purpose. Although Blackboard prefers to host the data within the territories of the European Union, in order to ensure 24/24 support, its support centers, located worldwide, are able to access the data. The data transferred for this purpose is all data collected to diagnose and resolve the incident and is used only for these purposes.
The data is kept, depending on the type of training, in accordance with the legal obligations of HEC Paris for the platform’s content and for one year for the logs.
The data subject has the right to access, modify and limit the process of their personal data as well as a right of objection on legitimate grounds, which can be exercised
