Executive Short Program

Adaptive leadership in complex situations Adaptive leadership in complex situations

In an unpredictable world, leadership is no longer about giving orders — it’s about making sense of complexity and guiding others through uncertainty. Designed by HEC Paris, this transformational program helps you navigate daily tensions (performance vs. purpose, authority vs. empathy, structure vs. agility) by developing ambidextrous leadership — combining strategic drive with emotional intelligence. Through immersive learning methods (role-playing, experiential workshops, peer exchange), you'll turn insight into action and expand your leadership presence. Ready to explore a new kind of leadership?

Objectives

  • Decipher complex organizational situations by unpacking perception bias, stakeholder expectations and behaviors, and conducting a reflective analysis of the issues involved.
  • Explore two leadership behaviors – “Dynamic” and “Gentle” – in order to adapt your posture and manage teams in complex, multicultural environments.
  • Overcome the conflicting dimensions of leadership paradoxes by developing an ambidextrous leadership style, suited to solving complex problems under constraints.
  • Develop your leadership versatility and adaptability when facing ambiguity, by anticipating tensions and managing uncertainty in a constructive manner.
  • Identify stress triggers to support your resilience and better accompany teams in contexts involving resistance to change or high emotional load.

Program

These two online courses –which require about 3 hours each to complete – unpack the core theoretical elements associated to Situational and Adaptive Leadership. They offer our participants opportunities to explore case studies but also to identify their own ongoing complex situations and start developing an ambidextrous mindset.

Situational intelligence is the ability to decode and understand complex situations, resulting of changing organizations in a volatile, uncertain, and interconnected world.

Based on P. Hersey and K. Blanchard's situational leadership questionnaire, this workshop invites participants to discover their own predominant leadership style, then to consider the possible need to broaden their range to other leadership styles in order to better respond to the challenges of their situations and the expectations of their colleagues.

Based on individual Harrison Assessments, this session will conduct each participant to reflect on their management principles in action and their agility to manage paradoxical situations. They will also identify the specific situations that might trigger stress and behavioral flips under stress.

Based on individual Harrison Assessments, this workshop will allow participants to unpack their behavorial patterns and biaises, and allow them to explore how to adapt their behaviors to better address on-going paradoxical situations they face at work.

Leading means not only setting the best strategies but also driving their implementation and the changes needed to make them happen. This session will focus on applying your leadership by understanding power and influence in organizations, managing stakeholders, and building coalitions to create trust, inspire innovation, and lead transformation responsibly.

The pedagogy is active, alternating between role-playing, practical exercises, conceptual contributions, reading grids, peer discussions, and the provision of tools and methods to structure a personal action plan.
