BS4CL on HEC - research seminar 2025

BS4CL is a unique partnership between eight of Europe’s leading business schools - Cambridge Judge Business School, HEC Paris, IE, IESE, INSEAD, IMD, London Business School (LBS) and Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford. An important objective is thought leadership to help present and future leaders combat the climate crisis facing the planet. BS4CL has also the ambition to create a vibrant community of early career researchers to become pioneers in climate and business scholarship and practice.

The first BS4CL Conference held in Barcelona on June 1-2, 2023, was a significant milestone. The event brought together business leaders and academics from the eight participating BS4CL schools. The conference showcased new research insights on business and climate change and facilitated meaningful discussions, across our alumni communities, on leading decarbonization efforts. The event featured 11 multidisciplinary research papers and featured both quantitative and qualitative research. The second BS4CL Conference was organised at INSEAD’s Europe Campus (Fontainebleau) on June 1, 2024. Under the theme ‘Who Pays for the Climate Transition? The Role of Business in Driving Solutions’, this forum brought together leading alumni from its eight partner schools to explore how to accelerate the financing of the climate transition.

The 3rd BS4CL Conference – Research Seminar

The third edition of the BS4CL conference is focused on thought leadership. Hosted by the S&O Climate and Earth Center of HEC Paris, it is organized under the topic ‘Addressing the Climate Transition through Business Management Research’.

This is an invitation-only, hybrid event. It offers an opportunity for collaboration between young and consolidated scholars and experts, and as a platform to ideate new joint research and thought leadership projects.

The 2025 BS4CL Research Conference is organized along three interactive sessions:

A PhD & Early Career Academy

The 2025 BS4CL PhD & Early Career Academy aspires to bring together young researchers from across all BS4CL schools to support, ignite, and accelerate joint research impact. The objectives of the Academy are:

  • Provide a space for knowledge sharing and learning for young scholars and researchers working on climate and business,
  • Share their latest studies, across disciplines, and build a vibrant research community,
  • Trigger new opportunities for collaboration and impact across institutions and countries.

BS4CL faculty and experts are invited to act as mentors during this academy. It features a keynote lecture from Professor Frank Wijen from KU Leuven, who also acts as a mentor to the students.

A brainstorming session ‘Joint EU grant application’

This is an interactive discussion to identify and define a joint approach to target the 2025-2027 work programme of Horizon Europe. The following areas of funding will be explored:

  1. Horizon Europe (RIA/IA) – Cluster 5: Climate, Energy and Mobility & Cluster 6: Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment;
  2. Horizon Europe (RIA) – European Missions (Climate Adaptation);
  3. MSCA Co-Fund for a Doctoral / postdoctoral research network.

The discussion will focus on agreeing on the most feasible pathway and timeline to action.

A briefing document with concrete opportunities will be distributed among confirmed participants.

A Research Seminar ‘New Paradigms of Climate and Business’

This seminar convenes BS4CL faculty and experts to start a collaborative process to produce the BS4CL book ‘New Paradigms of Climate and Business’. This document will be a thought leadership book with evidence-based solutions and actionable knowledge to climate related challenges faced by businesses. The session will be organized as a structured and guided brainstorming workshop, with the ultimate aim to achieve a concrete action plan for this book project.

A guidance document for the session and a concept note about the book project will be shared with confirmed participants.
