HEC Foundation 2019 Prize-Giving Ceremony

The HEC Foundation Prizes were awarded on January 8 during the Matin HEC event, in the presence of Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux, President of the MEDEF.
Each year, thanks to the support of its donors and partner companies, the HEC Foundation is proud to honor value creators and outstanding achievements by students and teachers at HEC Paris.

This year, 9 talents were showcased, and we extend our congratulations on the quality of their academic analyses and the relevance of their projects.
Seven jury panels composed of business representatives, members of the HEC Paris faculty and HEC Foundation donors selected the works they believe to provide the highest contributions to management science. 


The 2019 prize-winners are as follows:

  • The Grande Ecole and Specialized Master’s Thesis Prize 

Winner: Justine Boudou (H.19) for her thesis “The main drivers of CEO overpayment before and after the financial crisis: an empirical analysis.”

  • Doctoral Thesis Prize

Winner: Romain Boulongne (D.20) for his thesis “When is ambiguity favorable? An experimental and theoretical investigation of multiple categorization processes in markets.”

  • MBA Prize

Winners ex aequo: Clare Cartwright (MBA.20) and Hilary Matson (MBA.20) for the interpersonal leadership qualities they demonstrated in their work group.

  • Executive MBA Thesis Prize

Winners: Hélène Hubert (E.19) and Maxime Bertin-Mourot (E.19) for their dissertations [in French] “Project Capstone: How to implement new circular economy business models to generate incremental revenue for a luxury group.” 

  • Specialized Executive Masters Professional Thesis Prize

Winner: Michele Dabaghian (EM.19) for her professional thesis “Daughters of the desert: In light of the recent changes in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, what factors enable Saudi women to achieve leadership roles in organizations?” 

  • Professorial Paper Prize

Winner: Svenja Sommer for her paper “Collaborative Prototyping of Alternative Designs under a Target Costing Scheme.”

  • Research Prize

Winner: Guillaume Vuillemey for the highest number of publications obtained in the most renowned international academic research journals. 

•    The Bruno Roux de Bézieux Prize for Educational Initiative

Winner: David Restrepo for his project “Automating GDPR Compliance”.
